PRP Facial FAQS (Part 1)
The PRP facial is an innovative, state-of-the-art cosmetic procedure that utilizes the patient’s own blood platelets to stimulate the skin’s natural rejuvenation process. The patient’s own concentrated growth factor stimulates the skin to produce collagen and elastin at an accelerated rate – which smoothes out wrinkles and lines, and improves skin tightness, tone and elasticity. The result is a dramatically more youthful appearance.
In this article Englewood, NJ aesthetic physician Dr. Hetal Gor answers patient’s frequently asked questions about PRP Facials.
What is a PRP Facial?
A PRP Facial or Platelet Rich Plasma Facial starts with drawing a small amount of blood from the patient, just like a regular lab test. The blood is placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate the red and white blood cells away from the plasma fluid.
This fluid is concentrated with growth factors called platelets which aid the body in healing. During a PRP facial in our Englewood, NJ Med Spa, Dr. Gor injects the rich plasma into the patient’s face through microneedling or with a fine syringe.
Why are PRP Facials called “Vampire Facials”?
PRP Facials were a bit over-dramatized by Kim Kardashian and other celebrities who shared bloody photos of their faces after receiving a PRP facial. The term “Vampire Facial” caught the attention of their social media followers and was hyped by the media and TV hosts.
Albeit a little disturbing to watch, a PRP Facial is quite safe and causes no pain to the patient, regardless of its nickname. Rest assured Dr. Gor’s Englewood, NJ Med Spa offers Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP Facials without the drama.
Why is microneedling used during a PRP Facial?
Delivering the PRP into the face using clinical-grade ultrafine needles helps the PRP penetrate more deeply into the skin’s layers. A myriad of tiny channels delivers the plasma deeply under the skin. At the same time, the “microwounds” created by the tiny needles help increase elastin and collagen production to help the face look more youthful and plumper.
While both methods work on their own, platelet-rich plasma offers healing powers to the skin to minimize skin damage during the microneedling process. So, while microneedling on its own will benefit the face, fine lines and wrinkles will be reduced more quickly and skin texture will improve faster with the addition of plasma into the process.
Since plasma improves healing time, you can expect the microneedling process to begin healing immediately with PRP, versus 5 to 7 days of recovery needed for standard microneedling without plasma.
Most importantly, Dr. Gor in Englewood can achieve optimal results quicker and with fewer treatments because collage formation and elasticity improve dramatically when microneedling is combined with the growth factors found in PHP.
What skin conditions can PRP Facials treat?
The platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors that can not only improve overall facial tone, brighten skin and make the face appear fuller, but PRP can also aid in eliminating dark spots, fine lines, rosacea, pigmentation, scarring from acne, and many other facial skin conditions.
Is there pain during a PRP Facial?
Most patients experience very little discomfort during the microneedling process, but if a patient is sensitive, Dr. Gor will apply an anesthetic facial cream to help minimize any uneasiness.
