CoolSculpting vs. SculpSure – Which Fat Loss Treatment is Best?
At our Englewood, NJ medical spa we offer both CoolSculpting and SculpSure fat loss treatments. One procedure literally freezes fat while the other melts the fat away with lasers. So which treatment is right for you?
In this article Englewood, NJ Dr. Hetal Gor, MD explains the difference between the two innovative, non-invasive fat loss procedures.
Choosing a Fat Loss Procedure
Dealing with stubborn, unwanted fat is one of the greatest frustrations of the human condition. Whether one’s metabolism makes dieting feel impossible, or if no amount of exercise seems to touch those stubborn fat deposits, fighting fat is a daily struggle for many men and women.
There was a time when invasive cosmetic procedures like liposuction were the only surgical choices for weight loss. But now, in the 21st century, those wanting to do away with unwanted fat have more options than ever – with minimally-invasive procedures like CoolSculpting and SculpSure blazing the trail of modern medical fat loss.
Although Liposuction remained one of the top five cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2017, its popularity is on the decline. Recent date from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) shows that the amount of liposuction procedures performed since the year 2000 have dropped by 30 percent, because patients are now opting instead for non-invasive procedures like CoolSculpting and SculpSure.
CoolSculpting and SculpSure are non-invasive procedures designed specifically to get rid of fat deposits that exercise won’t touch. As two of the premier medical fat loss methods available, the ASPS reported that the last year alone saw a 7 percent increase in both noninvasive CoolSculpting and SculpSure procedures.
As there are advantages to both CoolSculpting and SculpSure, Dr. Hetal Gor works closely with all Englewood, NJ patients to provide the ideal experience in non-invasive surgical fat loss.
CoolSculpting Fat Loss
CoolSculpting – also known as cryolipolysis – is the process by which fat cells are frozen and killed. An applicator first applies suction to the desired section of the body, then uses carefully-regulated cooling plates to lower the temperature of the fat cells until they are irreparably damaged. Most areas undergoing CoolSculpting can be treated within just a little over a half hour.
While it only takes a little over a half hour to treat an area of the body with CoolSculpting, it typically takes a few weeks to start seeing results. Once the CoolSculpting is complete, the body will begin to eliminate the dead fat cells, and after a period of three months or so, end results will be visible.
CoolSculpting has been approved by the FDA to treat the abdomen, upper arms, thighs, “love handles,” and many others. As long as it has enough fat for the applicator to adhere and “suction” (enough to pinch between one’s fingers), CoolSculpting can be used to treat pretty much any area of unwanted fat on the body – including abdomen, arms, back, bra rolls, thighs, love handles and even the chin.
SculpSure Fat Loss
While CoolSculpting and SculpSure work towards the same end goal of permanent fat loss, they work in opposite ways. While CoolSculpting freezes fat cells, SculpSure kills fat cells with heat. During a SculpSure procedure, a laser is used to heat fat cells within the treatment area until they are damaged beyond repair. Once the damage has occurred, the body’s lymphatic system removes the fat cells. Like CoolSculpting, full results of SculpSure become visible after about three months.
SculpSure laser fat removal treatments only take about 25 minutes, and multiple areas can be targeted during a single appointment. The procedure can be safely performed on a variety of body types, with the best results seen in patients with a BMI under 30.
SculpSure is a safe, effective and FDA-approved fat removal procedure. Like CoolSculpting, there are no incisions, and no anesthesia is needed. Patients can typically immediately resume their normal daily activities after the procedure. SculpSure is approved by the FDA to treat the back, thighs, “love handles,” stomach, and double chin.
Choosing CoolSculpting vs. Choosing SculpSure for Fat Loss
As CoolSculpting and SculpSure are both approved to treat the same areas of stubborn fat, choosing between the two may, at first, appear difficult. Dr. Hetal Gor offers both services in her Englewood, NJ Medical Spa, and takes great care to guide all her patients toward the non-invasive fat removal choice that is right for them.
One point of consideration when weighing CoolSculpting vs. SculpSure is one’s sensitivity to pain. While the treatment is designed with a cooling cycle that makes it perfectly safe for skin, SculpSure heats fat cells up to 107 degrees, which may cause discomfort in patients with sensitive skin. This stands in contrast with CoolSculpting, the cooling action of which is reported by patients to have a numbing effect on the skin.
The choice between CoolSculpting or SculpSure can also be determined by how much fat you aim to remove. As the treatment can’t be performed without a solid deposit of fat on which to latch on, CoolSculpting is a better option for patients looking to remove a larger amount of fat. SculpSure, on the other hand is the most appropriate option for candidates closer to their desired weight but who wish to treat excess areas no amount of exercise can touch.
One advantage shared by both CoolSculpting and SculpSure is that neither procedure is associated with any downtime. And the risks associated with both CoolSculpting and SculpSure are minimal, especially when compared to other, more invasive surgical fat removal procedures like liposuction. Patients can expect a swift and easy recovery from both procedures, experiencing little more than some light bruising and/or mild soreness.
To achieve optimal results, many patients -those undergoing CoolSculpting and those undergoing SculpSure- require multiple treatments. Board certified women’s specialist Dr. Hetal Gor helps all of her patients develop a treatment plan to make sure they meet all their desired fat-removal goals.
CoolSculpting and SculpSure Results
Clinical trials have shown that an area treated with CoolSculpting can result in a reduction of 25 percent of subcutaneous fat, while areas of the body treated by SculpSure saw a fat reduction of up to 24% percent. Ultimately, everyone’s body is different, and the procedure that is right for them depends entirely on their specific, individual needs.
Whether one chooses CoolSculpting or SculpSure, patients receiving either procedure can look forward to results that permanent. When one loses weight through traditional means (such as diet or exercise) this causes their fat cells merely to shrink, remaining free to expand when you gain weight.
However, as fat cells are destroyed during both the CoolSculpting and SculpSure processes, the body will no longer store fat in the treatment area – making both procedures a permanent fat loss remedy. And as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained following the procedure, both CoolSculpting and SculpSure can provide patients with a long-term solution to unwanted fat they can enjoy for years to come.
