Better U Medical Spa is one of the only body-contouring spas that offers Jersey City, NJ patients four different treatments for getting rid of unwanted body fat! But with so many body sculpting treatments available, how do you know which one is right for you?
This month we compare and contrast several of our most popular fat loss treatments to help you decide which procedure fits your lifestyle and your aesthetic goals. In this article we look at the differences between non-invasive CoolSculpting fat freezing and minimally-invasive BodyTite Liposuction.
Similarities of CoolSculpting & BodyTite Lipo
BodyTite liposuction and CoolSculpting are both highly effective means of getting rid of unwanted fat. Additionally, the fat loss results accomplished by both CoolSculpting and BodyTite Liposuction are permanent, so fat cells will not return in the treated area after either procedure.
Both CoolSculpting & BodyTite Lipo have also been granted FDA approval for fat removal. However, there are substantial differences between the two treatments.
CoolSculpting vs BodyTite Lipo: Procedure
During CoolSculpting, fat cells are “frozen” and destroyed with a process called “cryolipolysis”. No anesthetic is needed, and there are no incisions. The patient experiences an intense cold sensation for around 10 minutes and then the treated area becomes numb. Once the fat cells are destroyed, the body gradually removes them over time through natural elimination processes.
BodyTite Lipo, however, requires very small incisions. A tube is inserted that delivers radiofrequency heat to melt the fat cells, which are then suctioned from the body. Local anesthetic is simultaneously administered into the treated area(s) to numb the patient during the entire treatment.
Unlike CoolSculpting, the fat cells are immediately removed during BodyTite lipo, rather than eliminated from the body slowly over time.
CoolSculpting vs. BodyTite Lipo: Number of Procedures
A single session of CoolSculpting typically takes about an hour – depending on the number of areas being treated. However, the majority of CoolSculpting patients need to undergo multiple sessions, spread over several weeks, in order to obtain optimal results.
Conversely, a single BodyTite radiofrequency-assisted lipo session takes longer to perform – typically, around 2 hours. But, while the BodyTite treatment itself takes longer than CoolSculpting, lipo patients only require a single session.
Results from CoolSculpting gradually become visible a few weeks after treatment. But remember, multiple procedures are required for most CoolSculpting patients. So, complete CoolSculpting results are only visible after several weeks – after all of the sessions have been performed and all of the fat cells have been eliminated over time.
Results from BodyTite liposuction, on the other hand, are visible immediately once the swelling has subsided in a few weeks. Older, traditional liposuction methods took months for swelling to subside. But the swelling from BodyTite radiofrequency lipo subsides much more quickly. So, BodyTite lipo patients are usually able to see final results in 6 weeks or less.
CoolSculpting vs. BodyTite Lipo: Downtime
CoolSculpting is a noninvasive procedure, so our Jersey City, NJ patients experience no downtime afterwards. However, they may experience some minor side effects such as temporary numbness, redness, swelling, skin sensitivity, or bruising lasting for a few days to a few weeks.
On the other hand, BodyTite Liposuction is a minimally invasive surgery that does require small incisions and local anesthetic. So BodyTite does come with a few days of downtime. However, BodyTite lipo is performed by separating fat cells from the body through radiofrequency heat energy, so it results in far less swelling and bruising than traditional lipo.
In fact, thanks to its fat melting technology, BodyTite lipo is considered to be one of the most physically comfortable lipo procedures on the market.
CoolSculpting vs. BodyTite Lipo: Fat Loss Volume
Any fat loss treatment’s results will vary from patient to patient – depending on the patient’s size and fat location. But CoolSculpting can remove up to approximately 24% of the fat cells from almost any part of the body.
BodyTite liposuction, on the other hand, is generally able to safely remove up to 11 pounds of fat in a single treatment. So fat loss is typically more dramatic with BodyTite than CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting vs. BodyTite Lipo: Skin Tightening
CoolSculpting has some very minor skin tightening benefits, but it is not ideal on its own for patients with large amounts of lax or sagging skin. CoolSculpting can be combined with one of our other highly effective skin tightening treatments, however, to help contract skin after fat has been removed.
BodyTite liposuction uses radiofrequency (RF) thermal energy to melt away fat, which offers the added benefit of simultaneous skin-tightening. The RF energy contracts the skin’s collagen and elastin fibers for immediate skin tightening. The radiofrequency also stimulates the production of the skin’s collagen and elastin to further tighten and tone the skin in the treated area over time. As a result, BodyTite lipo patients will experience much tighter skin in treatment areas than CoolSculpting patients.
