Non-Surgical Fat Loss Treatments: CoolSculpting vs. SculpSure
Unwanted pockets of fat that don’t respond to diet or exercise are often so stubborn because they are hereditary. Unfortunately, our genes often determine where the body deposits fat cells – and all the working out in the world simply won’t get rid of it.
The good news is that Better U Medical Spa in Jersey City, NJ offers multiple, non-invasive fat loss solutions that permanently remove stubborn, genetic fat deposits – without exercise and without downtime.
Better U Medical Spa is one of the only body-contouring spas that offers Jersey City, NJ patients three different non-surgical treatments for getting rid of unwanted body fat; CoolSculpting, SculpSure and JuvaShape. But how do you know which one is right for you?
This month we compare and contrast several of our most popular fat loss treatments to help you decide which procedure fits your lifestyle and your appearance goals. In this article we look at the differences between CoolSculpting “fat freezing” and SculpSure “fat melting”.
CoolSculpting vs. SculpSure: Reputation
Back in 2010, CoolSculpting was the first non-invasive fat removal procedure to attain FDA approval for fat loss. Allergan®, the manufacturer of CoolSculpting has also invested in considerable TV, magazine, and internet advertising. So, CoolSculpting is hands-down the most well-known non-surgical fat loss treatment.
Five years later, in 2015, SculpSure also received FDA approval for fat loss. Rather than using “cryolipolysis” (fat freezing) SculpSure uses gentle but powerful laser heat energy to melt fat cells.
Both CoolSculpting and SculpSure are highly effective, non-surgical methods of getting rid of unwanted fat. There are no incisions, and no anesthetic is required with either treatment.
Additionally, the fat loss results accomplished by both CoolSculpting and SculpSure are permanent, so fat cells will not return in the treated area after either procedure.
CoolSculpting vs. SculpSure: Procedure
During the CoolSculpting procedure a device freezes the targeted fat cells through a process known as “cryolipolysis”. The CoolSculpting applicator treats the area of fat between two plates that apply extreme cold to literally kill the unwanted fat cells.
The patient experiences an intense cold sensation for around 10 minutes and then the treated area becomes numb. Once the fat cells are frozen and destroyed, the body gradually removes them over time through natural elimination processes.
A single session of CoolSculpting typically takes about an hour – depending on the number of areas being treated – because it can treat only one area at a time. However, the majority of CoolSculpting patients need to undergo multiple sessions, spread over several weeks, in order to obtain optimal results.
SculpSure, on the other hand, delivers laser thermal energy below the skin to heat up fat cells. There is somewhat less tugging or pulling on skin with SculpSure than CoolSculpting – but some patients may find the heat intense.
SculpSure laser fat removal treatments only take about 25 minutes, because multiple areas can be targeted during a single appointment. However, as with CoolSculpting, multiple treatments may be needed – depending on the location and amount of fat the patient wishes to remove.
CoolSculpting vs. SculpSure: Downtime
Research shows that the common side effects of both CoolSculpting and SculpSure are typically very mild. CoolSculpting’s intense cold temperatures may cause temporary redness, swelling, mild bruising and skin sensitivity.
After SculpSure treatment, patients may experience some soreness and stiffness, as well as bruising in the treated areas. Typically, any tingling, or redness in the treatment area will resolve themselves in a few hours after SculpSure.
However, there is no actual downtime after both CoolSculpting and SculpSure. Because both fat loss treatments are non-invasive, patients may resume normal daily activities immediately after both CoolSculpting and SculpSure fat loss treatments.
