What’s Better, Lipo or CoolSculpting?
When it comes to fat loss procedures, there are so many different technologies that it can be hard to know which one is best for you. Some body sculpting treatments, like CoolSculpting, are non-surgical with no downtime. While other fat loss treatments, like lipo, are more invasive, but may yield more substantial results.
But, if you go to a Med Spa that only offers one of these fat loss procedures, they are sure to tell you that their procedure is the best – and push you in that direction. The good news is that Dr. Hetal Gor, at Better U Medical Spa in Englewood, NJ offers five of the newest and most advanced fat loss and body sculpting procedures. So she can objectively help you decide which one is right for you!
CoolSculpting and Lipo are our two most popular – yet very different – fat loss treatments. While neither is “better” than the other, they both have certain advantages that may make them better suited to your personal body sculpting goals.
In this article Dr. Gor discusses the differences between these two procedures, to help you decide if lipo or CoolSculpting is better for your unique needs!
One and Done: Choose Lipo
When you choose Lipo, all of the unwanted fat is removed in a single appointment, and multiple areas can be treated in the same session. So you achieve your body sculpting goals in a single appointment.
With CoolSculpting, multiple treatments are usually required. The size of the areas being treated and the amount of fat to be removed will determine how many CoolSculpting treatment sessions you will need. Typically, patients undergo two to three treatment sessions per targeted area.
No Anesthetic: Choose CoolSculpting
Lipo is a surgical procedure that requires tiny incisions. BodyTite radiofrequency assisted lipo performed at Better U Med Spa in Englewood, NJ offers the smallest incisions, because the fat is liquefied and removed with laser assistance.
CoolSculpting treatments offer body sculpting without the need for surgery – so there are no incisions and no anesthetic needed.
Permanent Fat Loss: Choose Lipo or CoolSculpting
Lipo and CoolSculpting are both permanent fat loss methods, and both procedures have been granted FDA approval. The fat cells that are frozen and destroyed during CoolSculpting, and the fat that is sucked out during BodyTite Lipo, will never return.
Maximum Fat Loss: Choose Lipo
One of the greatest advantage lipo has over CoolSculpting is its ability to remove much larger quantities of fat in a single treatment.
While CoolSculpting patients are able to remove up to 25% of the fat cells in the treatment area with multiple sessions, Lipo is able to safely remove as much as 10 pounds of fat at a time (depending on patient size and fat location).
So, for example, a person with 10 extra pounds of fat in their waist/middle would only be able to remove roughly 2.5 pounds (25%) with CoolSculpting. But with Lipo, all 10 pounds could conceivably be lost in a single lipo treatment.
No downtime: Choose CoolSculpting
We offer BodyTite lipo, which has one of the fastest recovery times of all liposuction methods, because it is radiofrequency assisted. However, BodyTite lipo patients cannot drive for 24 hours and typically stay home from work for 2 or 3 days. Many patient’s schedule lipo on a Thursday or Friday, so they have a long weekend to recuperate.
Exercise and strenuous activity should be avoided for a week after lipo. And, mild pain or discomfort can last a few days to a few weeks. Patients usually must wear a compression garment full time for 10 days after lipo to manage the swelling.
With CoolSculpting, since there’s no anesthesia or surgery involved – not even a small incision – there’s no downtime. Patients can return to work or their normal daily activities immediately after the procedure because it’s 100% non-invasive. Any soreness after CoolSculpting is typically reported to be mild and generally does not require medication.
Loose, Lax Skin: Choose Lipo
While CoolSculpting has some minor skin tightening benefits, they do not compare to the dramatic skin tightening of BodyTite Lipo.
BodyTite Lipo uses radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) which results in skin that is 40% tighter than the results of traditional liposuction. This amazing skin contraction leaves abs, arms, butt, chin, or anywhere BodyTite Lipo is performed, tight and toned.
So if you already have loose or saggy skin – or if you do not have good skin elasticity – BodyTite Lipo is the better option for ensuring skin “snaps back” after fat removal.
